Ahoy All,
Our local fleet #25 here in NE Fla. had their "Any Way The Wind Blows" cruise for October last Saturday & Sunday.
I took Chick-a-pea out Friday getting underway at 2100 hoping to get the hook down before a severe weather front hit us at 2230 out of the West. NOAA forecast winds at 25 to 30 kts. and if I did not get out of my slip it would be a nightmare. So I did get hunkered down on the weather shore about five miles away and rode the storm out. Although it was quite windy I did not get sucked up in a tornado as predicted. It did give me an opportunity to catch up on Lucky Jack Aubrey in Patrick O'brien's novel Post Captain while I rode out the storm.
Saturday I did a lot of fix'n on the boat as I watched the Naval Air Show and the Blue Angels fly overhead. It was late in the afternoon before I made contact with anyone in the fleet. There were about 500 boats in the vicinity of the air show. And at one point some fiberglass idiot was broacasting rock & roll over VHF ch 72.
So just before the Sun set I got rafted up along side Mustang Sally with John and Laura, Abey, Clair & Elly. On the other side was Pretty Penny II with Jerry & Holly. Holly is the one with the long snout. Later in the evening Blue Bell with Larry and his granddaughter (sorry I don't remember her name)made it back to the raft-up. We all had a good evening cooking, eating and sharing stories. It was still pretty windy but eventually the wind clocked around to the N. and eased off a bit.
Sunday morning was hot coffee and a leisurely breakfast as we dropped off Daylight Savings Time. I think it was about 1030 we split up and headed back as more of the air show was going on above.
I for one had a great time.
