I got a small bonus at work and the admiral let me keep half! So I got a new toy. They work great. the lead car is too small for ball bearings, but it does have plastic slides and it adjusts very smoothly. Only sailed once since i installed it, but it worked well.

This looks pretty cool. Does moving the clew like that change performance a lot?

Very nice.
Yes it will make a difference over time. As the wind changes being able to keep the foot and luff at their optimum will add up. Also an easy way to change the angle of the sheet if you have to furl or change the headsail is great.

being able to adjust it incrementally makes it very easy to see the effect of the trim change. plus when reaching you can run it forward quickly so the top of the headsail does not fall off. the gaurhaer unit adjusts easily under load.

I only have quick release cars and that even made a huge difference. In Sd. We have pretty light air, but it pipes up in the afternoon and I adjust my cars alot.

And that'll help you win a race when you don't have to luff up to adjust your cars!

Not that many of us (or any of us?) are doing class racing, but does anyone know if this setup would be "class legal"?

There's no reason why it should not be permitted. It doesn't make the boat point higher or foot faster than when it came from the factory. It just makes it easier to adjust the jib trim in strong winds. It's the equivalent of adding a block to your outhaul, to increase mechanical advantage and make it easier to adjust.

Question: Do you cleat the control line, or do you just use it to take the load off the car so you can adjust it?

I took pics with that intention. Was going to finish after we get some warmer weather to go out again. Have only used in light winds so far. Would like to write about the experiences in heavier winds.
