i've purchased some 12x12 sheets of rubber and neoprene from mcmaster to replace the gaskets on my ballast fill valve. i understand that both gaskets need to be glued in place to keep them from rising up, but i'm not sure which gasket goes on first.
my original valve only has one gasket and no evidence that there was a second. i ordered the two sheets based on the catalinadirect picture showing two.
hmm, odd, i would have expected them to be the other way. the neoprene is much softer then the rubber. i would have half heartedly guess it go against the hull to fill in any imperfections.
the gluing as i understand it, is to keep the gaskets from riding up the shaft when it's in the water and preventing the ballast tank from filling
