I am trying to adjust a fin keel trailer to fit my 1988 wing keel. Does anyone know if the dimensions for the cradle on Tech tips would work for a trailer. If any one has a trailer for a Wing keel would you please measure the adjustable pads and see if they are 37 to 38 inches tall.

Thank you very much

Jim

I have a trailer for my wing keel. It has six pads, three on each side. They all very in height. The forward ones are quite tall and the aft ones are quite low. It will depend on the position of the pads in relation to the boat hull that determines height. I might suggest that, if possible, you load the boat and adjust the pads to fit properly for their respective location. I had to adjust mine, but I had the use of a hoist to do it.

I have a trailer for my wing keel but it has rollers I don't know if that would help.

So the difference in draft between a WK and a FK is 14". From this photo and my memory, the front pads could drop about a foot and the rear pads, maybe 6 inches. So on this trailer, one would have to cut down the supports and the braces as well as widening the slot that the keel goes in to accommodate the wider keel

My only advice would be, get that boat as low as possible on the trailer. Launching mine is tough even with the extension and we had all four wheels of that little pickup in the water before floating off. The guy helping me didn't like it and I don't blame him. A truck with more ground clearance makes it easier but we still submerge the differential.

Hope you changed the differential oil. Water enters the vent. This happened to all of our trucks with the flooding from Sandy along with the wheel bearings.

Build a 20 foot tongue extention and problem solved. It's common on deck and pontoon boats too.

For launching with a fin keel trailer, I recommend using the strap method.

I'm thinking of that but would need to add a wheel or roller to the front of the trailer. Trailer has a tongue extension of about 10 ft. I may add a 4 ft. extension to the hitch and see how that works.

We tried launching our C25 wing keel every way but with a crane. Maybe because of our age we decided on the strap method, which was the less strenuous and quickest. Any one who wants a long metal extension for launching can come pick ours up for free in northern CA. Will send pics if requested.

Is that an extension that attaches to the hitch receiver on the towing vehicle Lynn?

What is the strap method. Is that when gravity takes the trailer down as far as it goes and the strap (rope) is used for control.
