There are at least four C25s in my harbor. I�ve spoken with the 3 of the owners and discussed this forum for owners who want to maintain and upgrade their boats. 3 out of 3 thanked me for the info but said they�re not interested...

I reckon this group is for a special breed of boat owners

Bruce - Well that was an interesting data point - Spoke to 3 owners and none expressed interest in the Forum. I know that there are variables involved as to one's interest in joining a forum - Some might not want to deal with social media, but reading these posts would seem to be one of the most benign forms of social media. There are those that perhaps do not consider this a hobby as much as a sport or pleasure activity. You run across so many different types on the docks. For instance, there are those that use a boat just as they would using a backyard - Just a place to go and have a drink alone or with company. Then there are those that own the boat but never come down to it. During past years, I have twice come across those with a different boat use - Not so interested in the boat at all but since they were travelling for work reasons up to our area 3 days a week, decided to buy and live on a boat for the 3 days/week versus stay in a hotel - Seemed to be more economical for them.

And . . . . if you are a do-it-yourself type, or are trying to learn, our forum will be of interest, but if the boat is a "toy" to last a season or two before the next toy is sought, then joining is of less interest. I have a good friend who owns a C-25 and for years his response when I suggest he join the Association is "I know all about my boat" except he is constantly working on it and asking questions! Some just like to work harder it seems.

Of the three C25 owners I�ve met each has added what I�d call a nonstandard or DIY modification to their boats.
One has a single sheet of marine plywood cut in the shape of the crib boards for his companionway. The wood has been around for a few seasons so it�s weathered and should be replaced. I mentioned that a source of teak and mahogany 1-by lumber is available a few miles away, but so far, no dice. I bought a similar amount of teak for my dinette table replacement and it was about $90. The lumber shop even put it thru the planer to provide a clean and flat surface to work with, I didn�t have to sand it smooth.
Another one has removed the lifelines that were in sad shape (vinyl peeled off and end snapped). I suggested a source of SS wire rope or dyneema line as replacement but so far no lifelines.
The third guy keeps their boat nice.

Bruce yep, Along my dock there are a few boats that I wouldn't risk my life in. The slip fee is probably more than the boat is worth. Duck tape is used in many creative ways. It's all about priorities.

For perspective, a little over 200 users (not necessarily owners) have posted here in the last 12 months, out of the 6000+ C-25s built. That's about 3% (assuming, incorrectly I'm sure, that all 6000 are still floating). I've met at least four other owners who never participated here, and won't. As suggested, their boats are occasional distractions--not their passions. And if they spend any time on the web, it's not for this. I suspect it's in line with Catalina's long-term strategy for their products. These are the "Ford 150s" or "Chevy Silvorados" of sailing.

The good news is it developed a remarkably supportive and friendly community of the folks who really appreciate these boats! I'm a past owner (along with a few others here) whose appreciation continues.

That's really nice. I've been buying off the Internet and paying shipping. Another guy at our club was really excited about finding some teak on Craigslist, only an hour away...
