Anyone have or know where I can get some Genoa track, silver and 1" wide? I only need about a foot.

I don't want to order 47" for $80 from Catalina Direct, but I might call them to see if they have a shorter piece.

This is for my whisker pole to mount on the front of the mast, I already have 1" track on the mast, but need just a tiny bit more to store it up there.

Shaeffer sells it for $58.55 for a 2' length. If you can't find it at the $12.00 price, I would use black. It's only a short piece on the mast, and I doubt that anyone will think about it's color.

I installed a black 4' track on my mast and replaced the original black traveler with a new black traveler on my C&C 35. My mast and boom are painted white and the genoa track and Lewmar winches and blocks are all silver. My whisker pole is silver. My boat was originally built with a mix of black and silver hardware colors with white spars.

But I'm not sure that you need the pole attachment to be adjustable at all for your whisker pole. I raced in about 7 C25 national regattas and 2-3 Cal 25 national regattas, and don't recall anyone adjusting the pole height for a whisker pole. It's done regularly for a spinnaker, but not a genoa.

For downwind sailing with a genoa, sail shape is virtually irrelevant. It's all about maximizing sail area. Aerodynamic shape isn't a factor, because the wind is only pushing on one side of the sail. If whisker pole length is not limited by the rules at your racing venue, then I don't think adjusting the pole attachment height matters at all. If whisker pole length is limited, then being able to adjust the height of the attachment might matter theoretically, but I think it would be almost inconsequential.

Anyway, it's worth thinking about before you go to the effort and expense of making the modification.

Steve - my whisker pole is just a tiny bit longer than my track attached to the mast. The track is fine for sailing, but even at its shortest length the whisker is about 4" too long for storing on the mast in a upright position. Inside the boat the whisker is just in the way while underway.

Oh I get it now! Good idea. Now that you mention it, I think I'll do that with the whisker pole on my C&C 35. I don't think I'd have to modify any hardware to do it, and it makes it very easy to store and to set the pole when you want to use it, especially with a roller furling jib. Lower it to horizontal, put the jibsheet in the jaws and then unroll the jib by pulling the jibsheet. I should have done that 15 years ago!

Could you just add a spinnaker pole ring to the front of the mast so you can attach one end of the pole to the ring and the other end to the track you have now?

Nope, can't add that ring.. I already have it. Good idea if I didn't have it..it would of solved the problem.

I still need just a tiny bit more track length.

You know, Erik, I was in a sort of discount/consignment chandlery in Alameda, CA today after dropping off a sail for repair next door and I did see a barrel of random lengths of t-track. It wasn't all brand new but there were plenty of clean straight pieces in it.

I'll be going back in a week or so to pick up the sail and I'd be happy to see if there's a piece of 1" that would work for you if you want.

Another source of all sorts of sailboat parts at really low prices is Minney's in Costa Mesa, CA. You could call them and ask if they have what you need. I have bought cam cleats, stand-up blocks, and life ring brackets there at about 90% off!

Either you or they have to go and find the particular part you need. I bet they will have many pieces of 1" genoa T-track.

I have found the folks who work there to be very helpful.

I know them, I was just a few miles away this January and wanted to "dig" through everything, but was overruled by family...seems their idea of a vacation isn't looking for sailboat parts.

So the kids went swimming in the Pacific instead...
