We recently purchased a '96 C250WB. However the gin pole, tackle and description on page 9 and 10 of the 1996 manual seem to be missing.

Could someone indicate the diameter of the pole, the overall length and particularly how it connects to the hole in the bottom of the mast and how the raising tackle is fastened to the pole.

A photo and any help would be appreciated

It's a long story... boils down though to the fact that it was thought that we were getting too old for sailing and in need of more comfort. Hence the 2850 Bayliner which could do everything fast and in comfort

Nothing not to like about speed and more comfort except it had no sails. So we sold it again. Finding ourselves boat-less, over the winter we kept searching far and wide for anything trailer-able and mainly sailboats.

Not everyone will agree but for us not much came close the way we use, trailer and live aboard the C250 for longer periods.

We know the C250WB has limitations including headroom, etc., but appreciate the layout, design and features not found on many other trailerable boats

Then, because the boat we purchased is located in Ontario, we will include a road and float trip in Ontario (about 8000km 5000 miles) before bringing her home in the fall.

Now how's that for an adventure...

I'm confused regarding mast raising on our new-to-us 1996 Hull 191 C250

The generic C250 on-line manual shows that the mast should be raised by using the extended trailer ladder. However the trailer that came with the boat does not have the extended ladder as outlined in the manual.

The boat did not come with a gin pole either. However on the bottom of the mast is, what appears to be a 2" gin pole insert hole but it does not have the smaller hole on the the back of the mast to anchor the gin pole.

My question is how to raise the mast and with what equipment. There is in anchor locker an eye bolt to attach a block and tackle but no block and tackle is on board.

Catalina Direct whom I contacted mentioned that Catalina made several mast raising changes around that time.

Any and all suggestions are very welcome

I am not exactly sure what Catalina had set up for this arrangement, but Hunter 260 has a one inch stainless steel pipe that fits into a hole at the base of the mast and extends forward about the length of the fore triangle. On the end near the forestay is an attachment for the job halyard on the top and the mainsheet on the bottom. The mainsheet is then connected to the attachment in the anchor locker. So, with the mast down, the gin pole is standing vertical with jin halyard tight and cleated off. The mainsheet is extended from top of gin pole to anchor locker, ready for you to take advantage of the purchase and pull the mast up. Hopefully, you have the baby stays. If not, you can simply have someone keep the mast in alignment as you go up with it. Or tie some lines to function as baby stays.

My C250WK has the extended trailer post arrangement. But, I have put my mast up and down using a spinnaker pole attached to a ring on the mast and setup as described above. I tied some lines from the front of the spinnaker pole to the rings on the stanchions to use as a stay to keep the spinnaker pole in line as I raised or lowered the mast.

Regardless it really is quite easy to raise and lower a C250 mast.

Thanks David I downloaded the Hunter manual which describes a similar raising technique as the C250 manual.

Not knowing exactly what is on board of our, Ontario located, new-to-us C250WB I will obtain an aluminum "gin", pole of about 97" long and 11/2"OD

I happen to have what a gin pole and what I think is the mast rest for a Hunter 260. The trailer i bought and modified to fit my C25 was originally built for a Hunter 260. I can get you pictures if you like.
