I have a 2005 250... the screws on my hatch hinges are loose, and will not tighten. I am assuming they are stripped. What is the best way to repair/ reset those screws... anyone have experience with this job?
I have a '96 with a similar problem the hinges on the cockpit lockers won't stay seated. i was thinking of pushing some long rivets in there. since i have no access to the rear side of the fiberglass. maybe the same would work for you. I'm not sure how thick the glass is in the cockpit though, so i might have to special order something. fortunately mcmaster has some long ones in stock
On the cockpit locker hinges, I gained access through the aft bulkhead for the aft hinges and cut the liner, installing round screw in deck plates (same size and similar to others on the boat)to gain access to the back of the fiberglass for the forward hinges. Then used bolts, large washers and nuts in existing screw holes. Works good and feels good not to have to tighten those screws all the time. Yes, and if the boats are the same it is a tight fit through the bulkhead.
Jeff, I haven't had a problem with the hatch hinge screws (yet) so don't have a proven fix. Epoxy? Cutting small holes in the liner? If you find a good fix, please share.
I removed the screws, filled the holes with Marine Tex, drilled pilots and screwed them back in. Worked great! Tried it with 5200 without real long term success.
