I am dropping the rig next week and covering and storing the boat for the winter. I need to reword the FF2. The drum has a lot of friction, haven't looked that the swivel at the sail head. The flexible luff is also misshapen.... PO was in AZ and it looks like the furler was strapped very tightly to the mast at the deck and steaming light. The luff is warped significantly there. Hoping to put it into a black ABS pipe and let it sit in the sun.
I was hoping it would relax while it was rigged this past summer but no luck.
So, I read the manual, can't really figure out what the reasonable minimum coil diameter is for coiling and transporting home. I see the cautions on the spring loaded force of the thing so it looks like caution is required. Has anyone had to do this same thing?
I have the Schaefer furler but friends have the CDI (on their Hunter 260's). At the end of the season when they pull their boats out of the lake they coil the foil and all up to fit neatly in the bed of a full size pickup. I cringed and was skeptical the first time I saw it but they have been doing it for years. Wouldn't/couldn't do that with my Schaefer foil.
Coiling the extrusion sounds like a good idea. In order to dispose of the old furler which was replaced by a new furler extrusion, we left it, coiled up into a 4ft bundle, stored in the garage.
By the looks of it the sharp bend, caused by strapping it to the mast over top of the spreader, could well have disappeared.
Uncoiling and straightening the 4ft coil should not be a problem.

Thanks for the help and advice and forum links. I think I'll give the black pipe approach a try. CDI reporting about $225 for a new luff extrusion, not the end of the world, but I'll take the challenge of straightening it out.
