When Fall will come and also time to bring the boat to rest on its trailer for the winter, one of the chores will be to empty the fresh water tank so that it does not freeze (Yes, I live in Canada). Other than manually pumping the water for hours into the kitchen sink, did someone figure a simpler way to empty the tank? I am thinking about drilling a hole into the top of the tank and to use a small utility pump to empty the water outside through a garden hose. Installing a drain plug to close the hole would make it for a permanent solution.

Daniel,

My solution was kind of an after thought.
I have a water ballast, so the bilge is under the aft berth.
Near the galley sink, you can access the water supply line.
I installed a tee fitting, valve and supply line to the bilge.
Open the valve and the water tank empties into the bilge.
The bilge pump can empty the bilge.
This works, but the manual bilge pump takes some effort.
After installing an electric bilge pump, the process is easy.

Daniel,

Check under the cabin seats between water tank and galley sink to find the best place to install the tee fitting and valve.
The water lines and bilge are different between the water-ballast and winged-keel models.
Which model do you have?
