Hello,

I just acquired #848 2005 C250 water ballast.

First off, thanks to all the information in this forum I have completely re-rigged and tuned the boat and its sailing better than ever. It also survived Irma and 85 mph winds whiled tied to a floating dock in central FL. ( i took everything off beforehand)

I do not have a trailer and have not had the boat out of the water to check out the keel. Also we have alligators and am reluctant to take a look with goggles. The swing keel makes a clunking noise when the force on it shifts from side to side (like during a tack). Is this normal or should I be concerned? Perhaps it is just bumping up against the stops?

Any insight Y'all can provide is appreciated.

Center board clunking means that there is friction wear on the centerboard suspension assembly. It is generally nothing to worry about and does not present worrisome problems.

However, the boat needs to be on the dry for however long it takes to fix this

To solve the clunking you may wish to consider adding "spacers". Spacers are available from Catalina Direct as a package complete with installation instructions or, like we did, make and install your own.

It involves adding "spacers", on both sides of the center board so that when the board is in the down position the center board spacers make it fit snugly into the trunk eliminating movement and therefore any clunking.

We'll be happy to provide "making your own and installation details", if you should consider going that route.
