I had the cracking issue on the side of my rudder and decided to remove all the gelcoat and repair the fiberglass. It is off of a 2004 wing keel with the 79" x 16" factory rudder. It is apparent that gelcoat filled the area that fiberglass should have been used.
The voids shown had been filled with the gelcoat from the factory and was easily removed with a dremel tool. The parting line of the two sides were filled with foam as well as the top and bottom and seemed acceptable.
At this point, the voids were filled with fiberglass stands and epoxy and then covered with fiberglass matt and epoxy. It has been sanded smooth and ready for the next step.
I plan on gel coating at this point and would appreciate any suggestions before I proceed.
Thanks, John
