My boat came with a the original toilet. Is it worth anything? Is there a reason to keep it? I don't want to pump out a black water tank, the lake we sail on doesn't have those facilities. I've thought about a composting toilet, no decisions made yet.

I have a porta potti now.

Unless you think your sailing venue or interests may change in the near future, I say chuck it. You can get a new Jabsco Twist-n-Lock for $150. The old head probably needs a rebuild - depending on the model, rebuild kits can cost nearly as much as a new head. There's a guy that's had an old head for $50 in the swap meet for awhile, indicating demand for used heads is low.

Do you have an old holding tank as well? New holding tanks for our boats cost around $500. Granted the new tanks are twice as thick as the old tanks, but an old tank might be worth something to somebody (especially if you pump it out before putting it on the market).

Are the holding tanks made of metal or plastic? You might get something for a metal tank, but a plastic tank probably is not too worthwhile. They tend to hold the flavor, if you know what I mean...

Today I tossed the head in the dump. Gone and done. My holding tanks for the black water were already gone when I bought the boat. I fabricate, are metal tanks available for the Catalina 25?
