I just found a series of videos on this subject, made by different prominent sailing personalities. Here's a link to one by Peter Montgomery that is really thrilling. https://youtu.be/26NE0saKea0

My favorite memory of the AC is from 2000. Being in the America Cup Village in Auckland for the last race with 70000 screaming Kiwis! Every time NZ made a mark rounding in the lead, you couldn't hear the commentary on the TV for at least a minute (and Peter Montgomery was VERY loud).

I recorded (on VHS) what became my favorite... 1987, Freemantle, Australia. The set-up: Australia had been the first to ever take the cup from America, with their secret wing keel 12-meter. Then, in Freemantle, Australia, it was Dennis Conner (who had lost it)... In the final race in a gale (referred to in Freemantle as "The Doctor"), Stars & Stripes completed the sweep after blowing out her jib just before the final leg. I recall the race starting around 5AM EST, and the real-time on-board video back then was astounding! A humiliating series for the Aussies.

Amusing moment: The next year, using an unsportsmanlike interpretation of the Deed, NZ presented a surprise challenge, with a plan to bring a secret 90' winged-hull boat to San Diego. After some court battles over the surprise, and with no opportunity for the US to develop a similar boat (NZ's strategy), Conner returned the ambush with a wing-sail catamaran. The two ~40 mile races (best of three) were won by the catamaran by about 20 minutes each--a total farce--followed by another unsuccessful court battle with the Kiwis arguing "No fairsies!" That was (hopefully) the end of "ambush" challenges. It also was the end of the 12-meter Americas Cup, and probably to having a dozen entrants.

That NZ boat is mounted outside the Auckland airport - and it's still as ugly as ever.
