Jared,
Go to Craiglook and type in Catalina 25.
There's a woman near Sacremento who's been posting a 1989 wing keel with trailer.
She seems to list it for a week, then takes it off, then relists it again - apparently to make it look like a new listing. She'e been doing this since October. Keep an eye out for it . . . it's looks like a pretty nice package for only $8,500.
Good luck! |

OJ-
I have talked to her and seen her boat photos. Seems to be in very "original" condition and has pretty bad osmotic blistering. I haven't seen it with my own eyes but have shown the photos to a guy who does nothing but work on gel coats an FG repair of sailboats and he said that a drill and fill would be a waist of time as the blisters would come back elsewhere. He said it wasn't structural but I don't really want to get a boat that I can't resell. It also has original everything, at the least I'm assummong it will need sails, running rigging, cushions, tires and maybe more.
I'd love to hear what others think re: the blistering and upgrades.

Yes, she shared pix of the blisters with me as well. With the proven products available today I wouldn't shy away from blisters in the least. When I opened the blisters on my 1981 C25 I stopped counting after 300. Filled them with West System epoxy/filler, then applied 5 coats of Interlux 2000E then VC-17. That was at least 8 years ago and the current owner says he's discovered -0- blisters. She took the age/condition of the original sails into account when pricing the boat as well. Not quite sure if you mean upgrades or maintenance. We just purchased a 1989 wing and (naturally) it has all of the latest Catalina upgrades. There are/were couple of members here that are/were passively looking to sell there C25 wings . . . perhaps they'll chime in.
Good luck and keep us posted on your search! |

I'm still in search of a west coast catalina 25 - preferably a wing keel but will consider a swing keel.
Thanks,
Jared

I have a 1979 fin keel for sale in Bellingham. There is an ad running in the Seattle craigslist. The ad reads as follows:
Catalina 25 sailboat. (Price: $5000.00) Structurally sound boat. Has Origo alcohol stove and heater. New roller furling and new honda 9.9 4stk. high thrust extra long shaft with electric tilt/start and cockpit controls. The engine is mounted on a custom "Puder Built" mount. The roller furling is brand new, it has never been used. The engine has about 1 hour of run time on it and was about $4000.00 The keel was re-faired a couple years ago, but the bottom probably needs a pressure washing and some more bottom paint. There was not a blister problem when I did the keel. I repaired 2 or 3 actual blisters and they were very small. The wiring to shore power and charging system were put in recently by a marine electrician. There are a couple sets of sails, at least 6 life jackets.2 whisker poles, spinnaker, mooring lines and fenders, anchors, bilge pump, radio and all the necessary gear onboard to go sailing except the flares are probably expired.... The seat cushions all need new covers, the old fabric is getting weak. It will tear if you pull on it too forcefully. One or two of the windows needs to be resealed and I am sure the battery is probably shot. This boat is in good shape, but needs cosmetic attention, it has been sitting in the slip for too long. The lines are all looking old, but they still have some life left. The slip at Squalicum is also available with the boat. If you want a good solid boat that only needs minor attention, this is it. I am selling it due to a death in the family. Call 360-927-2546 |

| How much are you willing to spend for a 25WK? I know of an owner who might sell if the price is right. |

Our 1989 C25, wing, tall rig "Classical Cat" may be for sale. It has been on the trailer for over a year and I should sell it to someone who would use, and enjoy sailing, her. I have been upgrading certain parts on her at times during the last year but have been doing other things in life and have not taken the time to relaunch her and do the sailing I love to do. Sails in great shape including main, 150 genoa, and 110 which is practically new. Would include 1997 Honda 8hp motor. The "Cat" is in excellent shape but would need another coat of bottom paint. Price? Have to think on that a bit. Woodwork is very good outside and excellent inside. No blisters, very little cracking in decking, etc., due to age. Marine (pump it out) head. VHF. All lines led aft and rigging is in great shape. Trailer has new hydraulic brake lines and cylinder, etc. Tires are in excellent shape (D rated trailer tires). Really hate to sell so am not inclined to give it away.... It is parked in Hemet, CA. You are the first person I have actually contacted regarding selling her and at any moment I might actually change my mind. Let me know if you are interested and we can talk. 9519275457 |

I'll add that when I saw Gary's Classical Cat a few years ago on Mission Bay, it was a beaut! As you might know, Jared, the '89-90 was the final upgrade before Catalina stopped building the C-25 (probably because it cost too much for its evolving market). With its lower, flatter cabin sole and various other subtle improvements, it's truly the pick of the litter, and while it's a load on a tailer compared to today's models, it's one of the nicest 25-foot production sailboats built by anybody, ever. |

Remember, he has a financial stake in saying that blisters need repair and will again. |
