He has a Facebook page--last I knew he lived in Mexico, but it appears he's moved on to El Salvador. You could try his e-mail through his old forum profile (JimB517), but that might be to the San Diego Sheriff's Dept.--probably a defunct address. If you reach him, I'm curious to hear how he's doing--his new location is a little puzzling.

Now I see, from a map he shows that hung in his office, his plan to hop, skip and jump down to Ecuador by January on his boat Octopus Garden--a 50+' (?) classic ketch, as I recall... I guess it's starting to make sense (to an old fart "stuck" in CT).

For the newer crowd here, this is our past Association Commodore and most distinguished ocean racer on a C-25, back when he lived in, worked in, and sailed out of San Diego.

Thank you guys... I'll try to get in contact with him

When we visited Mission Bay in San Diego during our year-long meandering in 2006/07 with our beloved C250WB "Someday Lady". We stayed for 3 month in Village Bay Marina, slip 5, on D dock. Jim visited us frequently and took us out on his boat. Jim is a sailor at heart and told us lots of great stories.

Jim gave us a copy of his his book called "Bahamas or Bust", in which he describes their year-long wandering with their boat called "Indicipline", and it cover to cover. His headline reads "A family of 4 on a powerboat from San Diego to Milwaukee, to the Bahamas and Beyond".

Well, he's moved beyond... far beyond! But, sadly, without the family.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything, but as you can see from his open FB page, he's retired and has been living aboard a big ketch in Mexico for more than a few years now with a woman who is not the wife (Pam?) whom I met in San Diego. I know nothing of the back-story.

In San Diego, Jim became a passionate ocean racer who tired of being too late for the after-race cocktail parties on distance races in his C-25, so "graduated himself" to a 30' Pearson Flyer, an older flush-deck racer, upgraded the boat, gathered and trained a regular crew, and became a force in the San Diego fleet. He reported only some early activities here, but kept a Facebook page on Sly McFly Racing. (That was his Flyer.) I would congratulate him on successful duels with big Js and the like... Then something changed.

So, I guess he's living the dream. However, I would much prefer to do the same with my wife.

I always joke with my wife that if I don’t return home from a day out or a business trip, check Tahiti... I really believe she takes me seriously. As we now see, you never know!
