Okay, I just sold my new/old 145-150 furling rig Genoa no brand name sail on the Swap Meet. I posted details of this "mystery" sail earlier on this General Forum or on the Cat 25 Forum and then most recently on the Swap Meet. I am shipping it out today! But I was asked this question the other day and actually never gave it much thought:
Which side was the cover on the furling rig sail? I thought about this awhile and I guess it is one of those things I never gave any thought to it. I guess I assumed the cover is always sewn on the same side = The Starboard side. On the Genoa I have on my boat, the furling line is on my port side/ When I unfurl the sail, I generally pull on the starboard Genoa sheet and as I do, the furling drum turns clockwise and the furling line starts to wrap around the drum as the sail is let out and the cover is on/sewn onto the starboard side of the sail. When the Genoa is then furled, I pull on the furling line and the furling drum turns CCW as the sail wraps up - Sail is covered by its cover. I checked the furling rig sail that I just boxed to ship and it has the cover also sewn on the starboard side of the sail.
1) So, the cover on a furling Genoa is always sewn on the starboard side - - True ? 2) Furling rigs - The drums always turn clockwise when the sail is unfurled ? On all furling rig systems ? 3) What about the furling line - Does everyone have that on the port side of their boat?
