Anybody here currently using OpenCPN for their live chart plotting while sailing? I see lots of laptop installations, but there may be some issues installing it in a tablet.

I recently purchased a “motorcycle tablet display” that runs Android OS and can handle both android auto and Apple CarPlay.

I got the tablet for about $99.00 from Alibaba and it really works! (To my utter amazement)

It’s supposedly waterproof and vibration resistant, so it can tolerate a damp environment. (We’ll see how it holds up)

It has a very bright display (moreso than my phone or iPad tablet.)

I had an old subscription to C-Map which I installed. A buddy installed Navionics/Garmin on his unit. We compared notes after driving around with the unit in the car, and both Apps seemed to work fine.

I currently have subscribed to C-Map for $15.99 per year, so it should work through the 2026 season, however, it would be great if OpenCPN would also work.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how to integrate it using NMEA standard wired interfaces. Maybe a Bluetooth option???

This should replace a much pricier “boaty” chart plotter, but we shall see…

Any tinkerers who might be willing to advise?
