Steve - this is great and practical information based on your past experience.

The 14# Danforth would be a good choice if it fits. Another good choice would be a 12# Lewmar anchor. Both are quality anchors, and you shouldn't be tempted to opt for a no-name brand anchor. Depending on where you sail, you should have at least 100' of rope and I'd like to see at least 15' of chain, unless you're on a small inland lake. As a newbie I was caught with inadequate ground tackle in a 65 kt blow on Lake Michigan. My boat repeatedly dragged anchor all night, was once blown onto a beach and at 3:30 am I gave up and tied it to a government channel marker. Here's a link to a Lewmar 12 package with rode and chain. https://defender.com/en_us/lewmar-premium-fluke-anchor-package-with-rode?srsltid=AfmBOooxe9AWxifwV2SThppczoGwpkLFJhu0Ju96uBf3nrY_ydYKTWK38Qo#493=28912

Hello Steven — I’m sorry to hear that you lost your anchor.
Here’s a chart of standard Danforth anchor sizes by boat length.
Danforth Standard Selection Guide that Defender Industries show on their website.
I see a 9 pound that I’d call a “lunch hook”.
Next size up is a 14 pound. It’s 4-1/4” longer and 3-1/4” wider, so you might check your anchor locker for fit.
The 16 pounder is overkill.
You can use a full chain rode but most folks opt for 10-12 ft of chain with 150-200 ft of 1/2” three-strand braid rope rode. Three-strand provides enough stretch to soften any shock loads from wave action.
