Would a mount like this:

Allow for the outboard to be tipped up so the foot clears the water when not in use? I just haven't seen them in use so I can't envision it.

The cowling for my 9.9 Tohatsu is too large to let the outboard pivot in the normal mounting area on the 250. Moving it out will allow that.

Mike - pictures are sometimes difficult here unless you are a member and can load to the members area picture gallery. One easy way to share is to just load them to your google drive or one drive and share the link to the pictures. :-)

Hey mark,
I took some pics for your reference. But not sure how to upload to this thread. I applied for membership. Hoping approval will allow pic to upload.

Hi! My 250WB came with a standoff mount. It works great. I have some pictures for you. Sorry that some are sideways but you get the idea. I have an old Nissan 8.

Thanks very much for the info. If you have a photo, I'd love to see what you've done.

Hello Mark,
Last year I modified my 1999 catalina 250 engine mount the way you are describing. The mount I used is a solid, one piece cast aluminum jack plate that sets the tohatsu 4” off the transom (MJ-1-DP Jack Plate 4'', Amazon $99)

I did not want the engine setback too far back since I have to manually grab the back of the engine to tilt it up (Don’t want to strain my back any more than needed). The 4” offset allowed the engine cowling to pivot freely. I also fabricated a “steering” handle out of 3/4 black pipe with an 8” riser and a 6” 90 degree forward turn at top of riser. I painted the fabricated handle Tohatsu Blue and mounted the handle it to the front engine lift handle (it already has two bolt holes). I can now pivot the engine without the throttle arm ( I leave the throttle arm in up position and using it control engine speed only).

One consideration for installing the jack plate is the need to build up the fiberglass on the starboard side where the plate mounts to the transom so the jack plate sets square to the transom. I think I had to build up the fiberglass about 3/4” at top of plate area and feather it down to 1/4” at bottom of jack plat. I used Total Boat’s structural putty product for the buildup then gel coated the build up.

I thru-bolted the jack plate with four SS bolts and then thru-bolted the engine to the jack plate with SS bolts. I wanted a solid mount.

I am very please with the functionality and appearance of the finished product. I hope you enjoy your installation as well.
