Has anyone significant experience with sea kayaks? 'considering a two person sit-on-top. I know the cargo carrying capacity isn't that of a dinghy, but it's lighter, can't be swamped, would probably tow well, and even fun. One less outboard to cart along.
Hobie makes a pedal kayak! Now, normally I wouldn't seriously consider such an outlandish mechanical contraption on a paddle boat, but if Hobie is sending them out it may indeed be a robust piece of equipment - anyone heard of or seen these?
Go to www.hobiecat.com/community and read what people have to say in the kayaking forums. There's not as much as in the sailing forums (for obvious reasons) but you might get some ideas. :)
Check the forum data base. We've had many discussions regarding this issue. I would say there is a general consensus and pros/cons for either the Walker Bay or an inflatable. Both are good load carriers if you need to get to a mooring. I use mine with an electric motor for routine acces to my mooring. If I'm towing I only use the oars. If you need to haul anything at all, a kayak won't do in my opinion.
