This will be a stupid question to those of you who are computer litterate. Why do some of the topics in the forum fit my screen and others are so wide it takes forever to read, because of scrolling back and forth. Thanks-Bill

Sometimes it's because someone has posted a wide image directly, instead of posting a link to it. Much more often, it's because someone has pasted a mile-long hyperlink directly into their post, rather than using the [Insert Hyperlink] feature, after first switching "Format Mode:" to [Prompt].
Bill, The usual culprit is a long URL (web address) in one of the posts on the page you're viewing. Normal text will "wrap" to fit your screen, meaning when a line of text runs out of space on your screen, it breaks at a space between words and starts on the next line. There are no spaces in a URL, so there's no place to break it up. Consequently, it runs off the right side of your screen. I could go into a bunch of detail about how the text is being displayed in an HTML table that is coded to automatically size itself to a percentage of your screen width, bit suffice it to say that a long URL running off your screen will cause the other text to run off your screen too.
The method of avoiding the long url is this.... description Where you cut and paste the url in place of the 'linkto' leaving the quotes in place. ie. url="http://www.somedomain.com/somedirectory/somefile.htmletc"
When it comes to pics being too large, that is an issue that cannot be helped, just educate the members to post reasonable sized pics.
One quick note, most LCD monitors less than 17" are set to a default resolution of 1024 pixels wide. So check your resolution to see if it is set to one less than that. (around 90% of computer users see a resolution of 1024 pixels.)
To do that in windows.. Right click on an area of your desktop. Select properties Select settings tab. Review the screen resolution setting. Change it if you wish at your own risk :) I do not recommend changing the color quality unless you are comfortable with the method of getting them back if a bad choice is made.
