This is probably a common question, though I didn't find any specific threads on a search, so here goes...
My seaward princess model 1273 isn't working - big surprise, eh?
I bought a butane canister per seaward's instructions, and I can't get it to seat properly in the fuel locker. Once the locker engages the valve, I get butane leak.
So, how do I convert the thing to propane? I don't want to use a big propane tank (designing and creating a proper fuel locker is more work than I wnat to do. What I want to do is rig it to work with those green Coleman propane cans that one uses for camp stoves, lanterns, and heaters. I have such accessories already, so I know how the system works.
So here's the crux of the question....
Can I just change the fittings to accept the propane canister and expect the thing to work with a relative degree of safety? Or are there other mode required to make the thing work?
Also, where do I go for the parts and fittings that I might need?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Eating lunchables and poptarts for three straight days is getting bit old you know.

This site is a GREAT resource full of VERY helpful folks.
I went to Sports Authority and bought a nice propane, 2 burner camp stove for $35. I cut a piece of wood to fit where the old stove was. The camp stove is bolted to this. The wood fits on top of the opening for the stove and is screwed down to small cleats. Under the stove is now storage with some nice tupperware containers. I have 2 very small bungees crossed to keep them from sliding out when heeled. Install the whole system in an hour or two fo rabout $40 total.
I think this is superior to any conversion. You can probably sell the Seward on our swap meet, get a new propane stove, and make a healthy profit.
Arlyn has made this conversion, it is posted on his web page http://www.stewartfam.net/arlyn/ it is under mods and then gas valve for galey stove. Looks straight forward. The owners manual says the stove is for butane or propane. Hope this helps.
