I have some information that may be of use to some. I dropped the swing keel on my '86 c25 today.
Following are some measurements that I came up with to help me decide how the new keel hangers will fit and how thick the keel spacers at the front of the keel well should be:
Keel Width at the pivot hole: <b>2 3/4"</b> Distance between the hanger female threads in the bottom of the boat from side to side: <b> 5 5/16"</b>
I placed two new hangers from Catalina Direct together, face to face, and measured the distance, center to center, from one hole to the other: <b>2 13/16.</b>
With new hangers, I would have to machine 1/8" off the face of each piece in order to get them to fit.
Measureing the original hanger's bolt hole spread, when placed face to face: <b>2 9/16th.</b>
When doing the math, the new hangers, after machining, would cause them to end up measuring very similar to my original ones. The only difference being that the new hangers have the holes drilled 1/8 towards the outside when compared to the others.
The condition of my existing hangers and pin are in surprisingly good shape. Maybe they were replaced at one time?
So, I will not be replacing the hangers/pin and will only add a couple spacers for keel slop.
I measured the inside of the keel well, up front, where the spacer would end up when the keel is let fully down.
Keel well i.d. at<b> 5"</b> up from the boat bottom next to the front of the well: <b>3 3/8"</b> *note that the well gets smaller in width from the bottom to the top ** assuming a <b>5"</b> keel spacer.
Keel width where the spacer should be epoxied: <b> 3 1/16"</b>
This leaves a total gap of about <b>1/4"</b> or <b>1/8"</b> spacer required on each side of the keel.
It is amazing how much keel movement I had at the end of the keel with this small gap at the other end.
I hope that the above has been helpful and intelligible Happy sailing,
