The cat got out of the bag early, but there are a few additions to the links yet again. Spike and Paul can’t be expected to update these every time I see something when I’m farting around on the web, so this is most likely going to be the last update for a bit.
Because I don’t plan on amending them in a while let me give you an overview of what is going on out there.
First, we are members of 5 different affiliate programs. Performics.com, Commission Junction, Amazon.com, sailnet.com and Bfast.com (which is an affiliate of Commission Junction). 3 of the four companies are 3rd party vendors, with Amazon and Sailnet running their own programs. Sail Net is bankrupt and has never sent us a check…..
HOW IT WORKS
We are not in the business to hawk merchandise, but to provide a service to our members. Therefore we have selectively chosen the vendors that appear as banner links on the website. They all have relevance to our boats in some way, shape or form. The third party companies literally represent thousands of online merchants. Each merchant, (westmarine for example) sets their own rates regarding how we are paid, and for what activity we are paid. I’ve listed those below.
After applying, each merchant approves our application and we can then start building links. Some merchants allow you to link to specific products others are just to their site. I’ve tried to incorporate some of the specific products into the website forum posts if they have been recommended or are applicable.
What else do we have on that page?
Only a small fraction of that page actually has the ability to generate money. For those of you keeping tally at home, we’ve only generated $12 and change so far, so the organization still needs your support. The rest of the links page is chocked full of links of our fleets, other Catalina websites, useful companies that don’t have programs to name a few. We also have banner links of some of our National Regatta Sponsors – Catalina Direct for example will be sponsoring our Nationals in some way.
What about the XYZ company? Currently, we are adding companies that already have programs in place, while I’ve contacted Layline, Catalina Direct, Pyacht and APS – to name a few – for discounts, programs sponsorships etc, it is an uphill battle for us to get companies to move on this. Many of these companies started in “Grandpa’s barn” or the garage out back and it’s a wonder they even have an internet presence let alone an online referral program garnering fees for purchasing “click through” customers.
So without any more rambling, here is what we have – Overtons Marine 4% West marine 4% Bass Pro Shops 5% Boat US Graphics 7% Boat US Insurance $3.00 per lead Boaters World – free shipping for you 4% for us E-Angler Fishing - 6% Sunglass Hut – 7% Amazon.Com – 34% off books over 25bucks and 5% Magazine Mall – almost ½ price subscriptions 20% Sea Eagle Yacht Tenders – 10-15%
Many of you have thanked me for all my hard work. While I appreciate your thanks, it wasn't that difficult. After setting stuff up, its really only a quick surf in the morning to find anything that might be new. If I see something in a post as a recommendation, I try and throw a link to it as soon as possible so we can all benefit. The real thanks should go to all the officers and staff. Spike and Paul who do the grunt work updating the page, JB who constantly answers my questions regarding our Federal ID and banking information, and the other officers who have supported this concept.
One other thing – the 6 books out there on the page have been recommended at one time or another on the forum, so I didn’t arbitrarily choose them.
Hi Duane..Perhaps we should discuss off list, and please feel free to email me, however just a note to thank you and those responsible for including sailboatlogos.com (found on the Association web site under "Links" and then "Miscellaneous and NEC Links" as Sign Management). Sailboatlogos is a small venture, a labor of love really, to provide a source for Catalina sail cover logos.
In the past for other Catalina Associations, I have agreed to and would be willing to for C25 members, extend a percentage off the list pricing, either to the purchaser or the association as a rebate. As an example, you might want to visit the ships store on the C30 site.
Just as an aside, the sailboatlogos product offerigs will remain limited. I have no intentions of, nor will I, enter into areas where a specific offering already exists such as Steve's Catalina logo for the coaming (which look very nice by the way!) and embroidery products, etc. Again, sail cover logos are the primary focus, born of my many years in the sign business and need for replacement logos on my own (ex) C25 sail cover.
