We have a C250WK. I am thinking of buying a bosun's seat so I can go up the mast to make some minor adjustments. Has anyone else done this on a boat this small, and if so, what do you use to hoist with? Main halyard? Backup? (I am about 160 lbs.)
When I had some work to do aloft, I hired a rigger to go up. He used the main halyard. I wasn't comfortable with the idea so I paid the bucks. He did some other work for me so I don't know what it cost.
We had some discussion about this a few weeks back - can someone find the thread and post it for Cesar? Frankly, Cesar, it is no big deal to go up there! Derek
CESAR THIS LINK SHOULD GET YOU TO THE FORMER DISCUSSION ABOUT CLIMBING THE MAST. IF I DIDN'T COPY THE LINK CORRECTLY (HIGH PROBABILITY) THE DISCUSSION IS ON THE SECOND PAGE OF THE 250 SPECIFIC FORUM.
We haul a rather thin friend up out mast when needed (in return we help him with work on his 1968 Vega). If you weigh about 160 you shouldn't have any problems. We use the main halyard to winch him up with the jib halyard as a secondary safety (make sure you take up slack on that one too).
I recently went up on a borrowed West Marine Chair and it wa ssimple, I just had to recover the Jib Halyard and simply attached the main halyard and a friend winched me up, took less than 5 minutes up and down, a piece of cake, I helped by climbing where I could, really it is no problem, You do not have to be skinny, I weigh 190 pounds, Steve Steakley Moon Chaser
