I cannot remember and I came up with a big zero in searching for the Headlamp that was reccomended on the site by some of you. By headlamp I mean the one like Oscar is wearing in some of his Pics. I sent a e-mail to him. But someone wants to order one now for the holidays and has put me under the gun : ).
Any help is appreciated.

I'd for close-up work (like on a boat) I's recommend an LED model... the diodes (bulbs) last nearly forever and the battery run-time is many times longer than a conventional bulb.
The Petzl has an optional green and red lens for night use. Several of us used them last spring on a delivery from Galvaston to Ft Laurerdale. One set of 3 AAA batteries lasted the whole trip.
I purchased an Energizer brand 3 LED (two white, one red)pivoting headlight from the local Walmart. It is so handy I bought a second for the house. The last time I was night sailing to Catalina I wore the headlamp. When I wanted to see the windvane at the masthead, I only had to switch on the red led and look up. The windvane glowed brightly in the red light.
For the rest of you....Mine are (I have three) Energizer brand. Two dual LED's, one white one red, and a beam light. Three AAA last long (days) with the LED"S a little shorter with the beam. Got mine at LOWE's....$14.95 Indeed it will light up the vane....lights up the entire main on my 42.....
The lamp above does not have a strap over the head, which requires the strap around the head to be relatively tight....over time (hours) this gives me a headache....
Are any of these LED headlamps "AA" powered? I looked at several and all were "AAA". I try to avoid "AAA" powered gadgets, simply beacause almost all of my small electronic stuff like digital camera, camera flash gun, walkman, etc. is "AA", and it's a hassle to have to carry multiple different sizes of batteries. A couple of the headlamps I saw are "AA" but they all use regular flashlight bulbs, so power draw is high and burn time is a fraction of what the LED lights will do.
