Hey - thanks to whomever bought a digital Camera from Amazon. So far, it netted the Association about 12 bucks...

Hey Duane, I did not know we got kickbacks. So how does this work. If I go to a vendor through the links page and buy something, we get money from them??? Very cool. CHeers.

Woo hoo! 'Glad it worked ... in a different thread, I almost asked you if that purchase showed up.

A note to those who are considering using the links ... there is NO indication whatsoever that the Association link was used ... until Duane made his post, I didn't know it worked, and that our Association made any $$ ... this is a GREAT benefit to our Association ... thanks Duane!

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas everyone!

Please explain the links... I don't see Amazon listed. As well, for your international members, can you list some companies that ship internationally. For instance, I am in the process of purchasing a new GPS (Garmin Map276CS, per the advice I read in this forum). GPS City will only deliver in the USA , so I will be ordering from GPS discount.

Hi Cheryl.

Go to the top of this page and click on "links" ... on the links page, scroll about halfway down to "Magazines and Books" (in the left-hand column) ... click on the green box for Amazon.com. If you were looking for a blue link to click on, I can see how you missed it ... at first I didn't realize those boxes were the links either.

I'm not sure about international shipping ... but, I seem to recall that the different companies that sell through Amazon.com specify whether or not they'll ship internationally, if you've got the patience to click on their links.

'Hope that helps ... this sure is a great benefit to our Association ... thanks again to Duane & the other officers for setting it up!

Amazon is in the books section mid way down on the links page – left hand side.

http://www.catalina25-250.org/links.html#magazines

Real quickly, here is how it works

There are third party affiliate companies that represent tons of online retailers. We are affiliated with 2 plus Amazon handles their own stuff. We put a link on our page, that is encoded to us, a person clicks on the link and an internet cookie is put on that persons computer… (fairly normal in today’s web world)

If they buy anything at that site within x number of days (it varies by company – amazon is 7 West marine is 30) we get y% of the pre tax revenue. But only after we’ve accumulated $25 dollars or more.

I’d be more than happy to add some International companies if someone can identify them for me. They may not have revenue generation for us, but we can add them as regular links.

Thanks for the info. I found Amazon, now how do I find West Marine? New boat (hull 820) was delivered in November, now I have lots of stuff to buy before the spring.

Thanks, Buzz, but the only icons I see displayed are Catalina Direct, Overton's and Amazon. Could there be a setting in my browser that is preventing the icon from displaying? I also run Zone Alarm firewall but that does not usually effect the display of page contents.

Well, that is bizarre ... the West Marine icon is directly above Overton's. I have NO idea why you can't see it ... what's the scoop, Duane????

Buzz,
Probably browser settings, I never see the frame at the top of the page (I hate frames), and I don't see any images that are external to the web site. Also, I didn't know the Amazon link was cookie driven, explains why the last few things I bought at Amazon didn't give the association anything as cookies are deleted when I close the browser session and I didn't order the stuff when I first clicked the link. Too bad, I just spent $600 there last week. Next time I'll make sure I go back through the Amazon link on this site when I place an order.

You probably don’t see the links frame because you’ve logged into the site from a bookmark. This frame isn’t too harsh; it’s a single line of text in the top line of the website. It gives you links out to other locations of the associations site. Because the Snitz forum is not our code, the frame was the easiest way to do this in the short term. Since, like you many members come in via a bookmark, they rarely if ever check the association site. This will be resolved with the new website release we are bringing out in the next month or so. To see the frame with the links go to the association main page and enter the forum.

As for why people aren’t seeing the west Marine link - I don’t know, it does come in from another site – but then again so do ton’s of pictures in our postings. Do you get a box with a red x in it?

What browser are you using?

I’ll have to look into it. In the meantime, I’ll try and post a text link in the forum – if you see the box with the x – it still should be a valid link, you just won’t see the picture.

I did log onto the site through a bookmark, but even when I come to the site by typing the address in my browser, I don't display the West Marine logo, nor do I get a box with an x. My system is running with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.

use this for west marine Its the url behind the link.

http://clickserve.cc-dt.com/link/click?lid=41000000009510307

I just changed the security settings on my browser and that isn't it; I'm not sure why you don't see the logo.
