I have no personal knowledge of that area because I have not sailed that far south of Fort Myers. However, our yacht club goes there (Everglades City and Goodland) regularly and all I hear them talk about is the skinny water and fear of getting out of the channels...and those are power boaters. Again, not based on personal experience but my impression is that a fin keel would not do well in that area.
Checkout this screenshot from a chart at www.maptech.com. There are plenty of 1s, 2s and 3s just about everywhere. Like I said, pretty skinny water.
You can go to maptech.com, then click on "online maps," then "maptech mapserver" and get topo maps, photo maps or nautical charts of anywhere. It's free (one of my favorite words). It's easy to spend hours just checking out your favorite sailing areas and comparing the satellite photos to what you see at water level.
