Since getting the bug for sailing, getting my Catalina 25, and being in the rehab business, I think I have devised a way to enjoy my habit on the job. I am in the process of setting up an adaptive sailing program in our area (Corpus Christi, Tx) for folks with disabilities. If anyone has any experience with this type of activity, please let me know. You can email off line in needed as well. I am looking at Access dingy's to start off with and have seen some amazing footage of quadriplegics and amputees having complete freedom on the water, managing the boats by themselves. What a way to bring people to sailing! Anyway, any thoughts or experience is welcome. Dan 86 F/K
Dan, I don't have any experience in this area, but I suspect you can find a network full of support and ideas from US Sailing. They have a website for sailors with specials needs and a listing of adaptive sailing programs: http://www.ussailing.org/swsn/. The local program here on the Chesapeake is CRAB http://www.crab-sailing.org/. Good luck with your idea. Let us know how it turns out.
Dan, you may find some useful organizations to contact for information if you use the forum's links. Under Reference, in the last listing, you will find "The Mother of all Maritime Links" which has a category for "Disabled Sailing" which lists a great number of organizations involved. Seems like a great venture. Keep us posted.
