Does the C25 Kira Flicka belong to anyone here? If so I thought you'd like to know she was safe and sound on the hauling company's trailer here in Portland two nights ago. She's sharing her bed with a beautiful Marshall Cat. They looked a little funny spending the night in a mall parking lot, but that's where lots of trucks do layovers here.
I believe Kira Flika (former Lazy Susan) has been shipped to Portland from the Hudson River near the Tappen Zee bridge- her new home will be a mooring in the Portland area. I thought Tom was sailing her up - leaving Saturday.
How spooky is that! I watch my boat being loaded onto a tractor trailer and watch it being towed out of town and the next thing I know someone is reporting sighting it hundreds of miles away! It's enough to make a guy feel paranoid. Just kidding. Thanks for the sighting news. Yes, I had planned to sail Kara Flicka up to her new home in Brunswick, Maine, from her current home in Nyack, NY. If you saw my article in the May issue of Good Old Boat magazine you will recall the reference to the grand adventure I had planned. But the pressures of closing up a house after 25 years, arranging for movers and managing all the other details forced me to change my plans. I called my local boatyard for a referral to a hauling company and Jerry from Boats Away did a great job, arriving on time and handling the loading efficiently and cheerfully. He called a few hours later from I-95 to report that traffic tieups at the Massachusetts-NHampshire line were causing delays and he'd have to stop overnight in Portland and make the delivery in the morning. That was why you saw Kara Flicka in the parking lot that night. But the next morning he made the delivery and my good old boat is now safely tucked in at her mooring at her new home at Paul's Marina on Mere Point. My wife thinks it bizarre that the boat arrived at its new home before we did, but sailing friends understand my priorities perfectly well.
