Cockpit tray (never lose drinks, VHF or fishing stuff again) Mid Boom Sheeting for Al Galley upgrades including new galley table a la a C30 Salon oil lamp and candle lantern trays
Finally, mainly for Steve Milby, shots of the mast that don't really show the mast bow, but if you look carefully you will see that the mast bends readily above the spreaders and has a pretty good bow to it, too. I'm working on the tuning.
Jim. Is your midboom mainsheeting done per the picture in the cd book? I asked them to send me the instructions but they said they would only be able to sell me a vhs for 29.95 that shows the instructions. I think i have all the parts to do the modification, just need the measurements. Looks like you have the new cleat and block assembly about 3' from the end of the boom? Are you satisfied with how it works? I cant see the outboard end in your picture, is your setup double ended (able to cleat from either end)?
the mid boom sheeting is great. Its set up so I can hold the tiller in the aft hand and the mainsheet in the other hand. With my 3rd hand I can adjust the traveller. Exact measurements are not critical. Where ever feels good to you. There are some extra holes in my boom because it was too far forward at one time.
Im not sure what you mean by double ended, there is no kind of cleat at the traveller, if thats what you mean, you can just see the traveller block in the photo below with the rod holders.
One of our members, Al Ackhart was asking for a photo of the mid boom sheeting so thats why I included it.
I really tightened up my rigging per private email with Steve and got the lowers just right. Its now set up just the way he recommends. There is quite a lot of pre-bend in my mast - the photos don't do it justice.
Last weekend I was out whale watching on my boat and sailing in formation with my friend in his S2 28 footer. I had my 170 on. We were sailing downwind with a group of 5 whales. Indiscipline had to be luffed from time to time so he could keep up with me. When we decided to go home I gybed and he tacked and we started running upwind. The winds were about 15 knots. It was quite a load with my 170. The S2 was also running a 165 headsail and non-reefed main - but no racing or sail shape controls.
I was quickly over to 45 degrees of heel. I was standing on the corner of the lee cockpit seat, hiking out on the weather side and steering with my tiller extender. I was glad to have the tighter shrouds. Anyways I totally ran away from the S2 and out pointed him by 20 degrees while making 6.5 to 7 knots. I tightened the backstay and the outhaul to flatten the main and brought the boat back down to 20 degrees of heel. Lee shrouds were just barely slack, except aft lower which had a tiny bit of play like a low guitar string.
This is telling me the sail controls are working OK. In fact, I depowered too much and soon eased the outhaul to get the boat back to 20 to 30 degrees - where it works best in my opinion.

A double ended mainsheet system is one that can trimmed from either end of the line.
Jim,
Does your double line mainsheet setup result in a doubling of hats and heads getting "clothes-lined" when gybing?

Never been clotheslined...Then you're not trying hard enough!
