I searched the archives and didn't find much on cup or drink holders.
Some that I have found available are:
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001& langId=-1& catalogId=10001& productId=16827
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DRINK-HOLDER-DRINK-HOLDERS-CUP-HOLDER-CUP-HOLDERS_W0QQitemZ4603913992QQcategoryZ26448QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I like these, especially with the rail mount, but they are expensive:

What do most of you use for holding your cold drinks while sailing? Anyone use those above or have other ideas?

Hi Justin, if you look in the Tech Tips, one of the boats shows fold down drink holders. They fold up faily flat when not in use. I can not remember which one it is, but I think they said they came from WM. Cheers.

I have no idea where they came from but I have drink holders that hook onto the lifelines. Although securely hooked, they are able to swing so that, in effect, they are "gimbaled" and when the boat heels or rocks in wakes, the drinks always stay upright. The PO left them on the boat. Sorry, don't have pictures but I'll take some next time I'm at the marina.

I have both the fold up and the line hangers. I had 6 line hangers in July and one in September, they fell off while sailing. I like the folders enough to have put them on my 82 and my 89. i bought them on ebay of course but I am sure they are at RV centers.

I had 2 line hangers back in 98 and had none a week after I bought them. The best cup holders are the two that God gave you. After that the rubber ones that attache like winch handle holders work the best....

The ones that fold up, I think I saw online a few days ago. I was assuming they had to be screwed into the fiberglass and I was just a little leary about putting some holes into my cockpit. If you have the fold up style, where is the best location and did you have to drill holes?

I make it a point not to drink anything while beating to windward, unless the wind is fairly light. If I'm just daysailing, I can wait 20-30 minutes until I turn onto a course off the wind. I put cans in a coozie, which keeps them from sliding around and prevents them from falling over unless the boat is heeling a lot. If I need to put it down, I set it on the leeward cockpit floor, in a corner and away from peoples' feet, so that, if it spills, it won't spill where people sit. If the boat heels, the can will lean against the leeward cockpit locker, which will hold it up, making it very unlikely that it will spill. If it spills on the cockpit floor, it's washable - no harm done.

An alternative is to put the can in a coozie, and set it inside the leeward cockpit coaming pocket (after you have taken a couple drinks from the can.) If you turn it a bit, it'll fit in there, and it will stand up fairly securely in there.

My biggest problem with any kind of drink holder is that they're often in your way, and they're just one more thing that you have to put away when you're done with them.

I bought two cup holders from W/M that are permantley glued to the forward face of the fuel tank compartment. They are out of the way and hold other items [cell phone-digital camera] when not in use. I didn't want the life-line type because I do undo the life lines to get on and off the boat.

I drink a lot of bottled water while underway and I just put the cap on the bottle then throw it in the coaming compartment. If I have a can of soda, I put it in a can cooler and, like Steve said, I'll put it on the cockpit floor in a leeward corner. When the kids have cans of soda, they too go in can coolers and then are placed in the sink to prevent spills.

I think there should be something in tech tips about adding a small board to the companion way and attaching various things to this. I have it set up to put my depth finder and hand held GPS on.
I have also used the life line drink holders from WM. They work well, but I tend to lose them.
Cheers,
Chris

I think I'll pass on the suction cup drink holders, I'd probably sit on one and more than likely it would be holding the last drink on board.

they do make holders that hold a can in a coozie. Again similar to the rubber winch holders

Use the rail (from Cabelas)

I picked up a couple of these when we were paying our launch fee in Anacortes, WA
http://www.neatitems.com/Lil_Sucker_Ultimate_Drink_Holder.htm
We used them with our insulated travel cups in the cockpit. As long as the cup was only full to the height of a canned drink they held even when heeled. When you don't want them to stick just flip them up.

For a couple of years I had bicycle water bottle cages hose clamped to the stanchions. They worked fine for cans & bottles. Eventually they both got kicked or knocked off. I was going to drill, tap, and screw them on, but sold the boat.
Now I have a teak glass holder on the pedestal...

I've been using these that are mentioned above for years in the cabin and the cockpit. That way I can move them around if I change tack. But usually the one in the cockpit stays secured to the bottom of the fuel locker and rests on the sole. I had to replace it recently as the elements finally got to it. The one in the cabin has been stuck to the side of the galley forever. No holes to drill. No two-siide tape to remove. And they are easy to relocate.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll definitely need to get some coozies for my boat, to keep drinks cold and as others have said they really help keep your drink in place. I might get some of those other types of mounts and also make an accessory panel to drop in the companion way as I've seen some of you have.
