I have pretty much decided on purchasing the Garmin 276C, after seeing it at the Toronto Boat Show last weekend. I want to also use it in my car, and would be buying the optional auto kit. Could someone who uses this model for dual purposes tell me - does the audio run off the car's radio speakers, or are optional speakers required? Thanks.

It talks to you through a little speaker on the power cable that plugs into your cigarette lighter outlet. The auto kit also includes a cable that can be wired into the car, and which might make it possible for a wire-head to make it talk through the audio system--I don't know--I never used that. I'll suggest buying a second memory stick--I got the 256 MB stick so I could hold plenty of street maps. The included memory stick is more than enough for one Blue Chart zone.

Enjoy it!
