I have a Catalina 27 with the VOLVO PENTA MB2 saildrive. It has a cracked block. This unit was very popular in Europpe but most web pages are in foreign languages. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I can remove it and glass in the hole in the hull but that seems like a lot of work.

These are simple engins and if you want to keep it, should be fairly inexpensive to rebuild. Are you thinking about going to an outboard?

I have the same engine. If only the engine (upper part) is broken you can replace it by a honda bf75 outboard-engine. Volvo originally didn't build the engines by themselves. Instead they fitted honda-engines to the volvo saildrive. Otherwise spare parts of the saildrive (lower part) are hard to get. In Germany where I live you can still get sealings but no hardware for the saildrive. Do you have the manual? Its here: http://maximalt.dk/MAXImalt_artikler.htm
BTW: A real 100% replacement for your engine could be a new saildrive 280 sold by www.saildrive.se but seems to by quite expensive compared to a new outboard engine.
