Yesterday while under sail, a good many of my slugs/sliders snapped off the main at the mast during a good breeze. Can someone advise of the replacement proceedure?
Size of slug to order? Other parts required for task?
Is there an alternative to cutting and re-stitching the connecting strap between the slug and the sail?
There is an alternative replacement for sail slug replacement. Parts are available from West Marine. Do a search of this forum, there is a member who has correct part numbers and procedures. Real easy job.

Thanks Bear. I found threads covering the Catalina 25 which , but I couldn't find the slug dimensions for a 2001 250. I wonder if they are the same size
If you go to the search function and type in sail slugs and hi-lite the C250 forum and then pull down Keith D from the search by member window you will see his post from 9/28/2005. He gives all the info you need for new slugs and an easy way to install.
See the picture on "what every boat should have" on page four. This addition to my message gives you a complete list of parts and an illustration of how to use the alternative method. I have been slowly replacing all my slugs using this method. It allows you to change a broken slug without sewing and it is very easy to do on the fly. Good luck! Robert
The size you need is 3/8" slugs WM part# Sail Slug - 3/8" Nylon W/SS Bail, 2PK 2690881 PA017S/2 Only $9.49 Sail Slug - 3/8" Plastic, 5pk 2690865 PA017/5 Only $9.49 and the plastic shackles to put them in Plastic Shackles - 5/8", Wide 2690964 PA030W/3 Only $6.99 The way I put them in is to just cut or break the old slug out of the original sewn loop, which allows me to take the stitched part out of the second grommet. I then string a new slug on the old webbing (pushing the loop through the slug bail) and then bring the loop back through the second grommet and reattaching it to the webbing where the sail slug is with a plastic shackle (WM page 1088). This allows you to easily replace a slug at any time while sailing and ends up giving the sail about the same amount of leeway to the slug. The only required tool is a flat screwdriver for the plastic shackle. I have never had any problem with the plastic shackle breaking. I keep extra plastic shackles and slugs on board and change them any time I see one has poped.
Thank you all so much! We now have peace of mind that we'll be back on the water soon. Parts on the way! At least some of them. West indicated all parts in stock on the web site when ordered, but shipping note said shackles are back-ordered. A bit frustrating but thanks to all of you the end is in sight. Your help is greatly appreciated in working through this. (ordered spares for the future)
It appears an earlier repair was made in one area using shackels directly between slug and sail without the hank of fabric looping. Does anyone see any problem with those remaining ( they were not broken)? Or do I need to find a way to replace the fabric loop hank between the sail and slugs for those slugs repaired earlier in that manner ?
