I have read a lot of posts on the subject of adding a bow anchor roller to late models 250s with the trailer mast raining system. Arlyn has pointed out that he didn't think there would be room between the roller and the mast raising pole on the front of the trailer. I only trailer my boat twice a year, but when I do the bow is snug up against the rollers on the front of the trailer, so room could be a problem. Sailgal (Suzie, hull #619) and Welshof (Wil, hull #732) both installed Windline Ar-3 rollers, and I think both their boats have the integrated trailer mast raining system. Northlander installed what looks to me like a Windline AR-2 (shorter, but slightly taller than the AR-3)on hull number 804. The AR-7 also looks promising as a something in between the AR-2 and AR-3.

For those of you that have installed bow rollers, what is the verdict about any interference with the trailer mast raising pole?

Here is the link to the Windline home page, for those who are interested in the different options offered by them --> http://www.windline.com/index.html

jedperkins,
My boat hasn't been on my trailer since installing the anchor roller. I am planning a trip in April '06. I am hoping all things work out?

When the boat is on the trailer, the bow is held off the mast raising system by the trailer guides. I think there is room for the anchor roller due to the black guides that hold the bow of the boat on the trailer. Again, I haven't confirmed this space is adequate physically. It appears to have room to miss the mast raising system when looking at the pictures below.

Here are a couple pictures:

I need to clarify that when I suggested clearance problems with mounting an anchor roller and the trailer mounted mast raising stem... I was answering the question which I believed asked about an anchor roller mount.

Sailgal who offered the pics of the AR-3, outlined that she was just using the roller for raising and lowering the anchor...not for stowage of the anchor. I suspect (not confirmed) that there is adequate space for the AR-3 and that those who have installed it, like Sailgal use it for raising and lowering but not for stowage so I was thinking a more traditional mount with enough strength and clearance forward to store a claw anchor on the mount. It is that kind of mount that I see problematic on the 250.

That kind of mount was on my mind in the past so perhaps my thoughts went that way while others were going the other way. At any rate, several years ago, an owner constructed a very well made, sturdy and atractive bow support for a mount and anchor but that was when the mast raising system was onboard instead of incorporated with the trailer. I thought I had a pic but can't find it. The boat was FoPa and the owner lived in Oregon.

I did do a sketch a few years ago as I was contemplating building the mount and possibly even kitting it as I've done the steering conversion but discovered that I could get both the danforth and claw with rodes all in the anchor locker and decided that with the change of the trailer design, there wouldn't be much interest in it.

I was in hopes that someone would follow up on the suggestion someone made and check out the mount that Catalina Direct is selling for the C22... that mount makes more sense to me than the AR-3 or AR-2 as it bolts under the stem fitting using the bolts used to secure the stem fitting. Whether it is suitable for anchor stowage, I still don't know.

Here is a sketch similar to the anchor roller on FoPa
