How did Mauri Pro Sailing (whoever they are) get my e-mail address--apparently from this association? I just got a promo from them for Catalina 25/250 hardware. Don't know where else they would learn that I have a Catalina 25... Anybody else get the same?

Dave, The email address I use here is new and specific only to this forum. I received an email from Mauri Pro earlier today. I've never heard of them before.
I take that back, they did get my other email address. It appears they created a specific 25-250 site. We don't sell the email addresses, its quite possible they went and pulled them off of our site.
Based on other members opinions, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Its very possible that he built that section of his website specifically because we are now affiliates.
He has had my address for several years. The specificity of his listings is questionable, he lists traveler hardware that has nothing to do with our boats, halyards with no reference to cabintop length, and other items that are a stretch. I spoke with Mauri several times just as he was going into e-commerce from simply being a local loft with a national affiliation, (UK) and he was wonderful to talk to. I like him. I have bought several things from them and their prices are ok until you factor in the shipping charges then they are "typical", nothing special. The last thing I ordered from them were my new SpinLok clutches for the 89 and they said they were in stock, the next day they said they were back-ordered and they came finally from a warehouse back east. Mauri Pro does not have a warehouse back east, they were obviously dropped shipped from his supplier. Juan (juanmauri@mauriprosailing.com) has worked very hard to become a player and I wish him well. Rod Favela is who tends to take calls now, (rod@mauriprosailing.com).
The curious thing is that the association's e-mail option is set up so that you're not supposed to be able to "strip the site." Addresses do not appear (except your own, when you send.) How did they do that? (Or is there a special benefit to becoming an affiliate?)
I, too, got an email from them ...As someone who tries to guard his email address like an SSN, I'm not so crazy with the fact that my email address can be readily seen on the owner's page.
If you really wanted to, you could cut and paste the entire list from the members page into an excel document, do a quick sort and then seek and replace the AT with an @. It would probably take 10 minutes tops. A web spider or web-bot wouldn’t normally know to look at that, however a salesperson would.

This is exactly why I'm not fond of having my email address displayed for all the world to see...Good thing we don't post cell phone numbers!

The Members page specifically does not include e-mail addresses any more. For exactly this reason (harvesting addresses), it now includes a link to e-mail a member. The site generates the e-mail, and the sender does not see the address unless the recipient replies directly to the e-mail. And only you can see your own profile with your e-mail address. So the question is, how did somebody circumvent that useful feature??
I must be in more serious winter withdrawl than I thought - I rec'd the email and happily spent half an hour looking at stuff I want. I like his diagrams.
I don't mind getting C25 related email, as long as its legitimate in terms of the association. Repeat senders can always be blocked.

After doing all that work to be able to hide e-mail addresses and yet e-mail each other from the Members page, we left them in the Owners' Directory using the original "at" trick that was intended to foil harvesting systems. That's where he got them. Mystery solved. Never mind...
I received the same "E" mail, but also "Sail Magazine" has been bugging me, so finally I took a one years subscription for $5.00. I'll probably be harassed now with other magazine's etc.

Oh yeah. Magazine publishers trade subscriber lists like us kids used to trade baseball cards.
Yea, I got the e-mail as well. I don't mind the sailing spam as much as the 10 viagra e-mails I get daily! I mean... do these people know me or something?
I sent an email to Juan- letting him know our web address changed and also asked him to gladly comply with anyone who doesn't wnat to be on his list. He said you can either use the unsubscribe button or email them directly and it will be process within 24 hours.
He genuinely wants our business so I'm sure he will adhere to our wishes.
