Well, I've searched, but have been unable to find, so I'll ask: Does anyone have the vertical clearance for the tall rig? Might just add the standard rig, too! Thanks!

Do you mean on the water or on the trailer. My trailer height with fin keel is about 11 feet, Don't know the water height. When I do a splash I'll bring the sexton and get a reading.

Here's how I would go about calculating the mast height above water. The waterline is very close to the settee platforms, not counting the cushions you sit on. So measure the distance from the settee seat to the head liner, in other words the exposed length of the mast compression post. Add the length of the mast extrusion (28' or 30' I think -- some one double check me on that). Then add the height above the mast extrusion of anything else up there. The standard masthead fitting is maybe 4"? Then include the windvane, any masthead antennas, etc.

The mast length is approximately 28' for the std rig and 30' for the tall rig. The freeboard (distance from water line to beginning of deck) must be around 3'. I would guess that to the top of the cabin, it's another 2 1/2'. Vertical height above waterline is then approximately 33 1/2' for the std rig and 35 1/2' for the tall rig. As Leon indicated, you then have to add the vertical height of anything up above the mast (ie. windvane, antennas).

Thanks, Folks! I think I would then be safe to assume I can cross under bridges here that have a 40 foot clearance! Depends on the tide conditions, too, but 40 feet would probably be safe.

36 foot bridge clearance for a Standard Rig
38 for a Tall Rig

We have bridges here. That leaves some room for antenna, windex, wakes.

I know there are some bridges on the Potomac River that I cannot get under but the main river is free and clear to the South and that is the main direction I would be heading anyway. The main bridge I and everyone else have to get under is the Wilson Bridge (Beltway Bridge around DC) which is actually being replaced by another bridge that is being constructed right now. The old bridge has a clearance of apporximately 50 feet and believe the new one will be slightly higher.

I was talking to this fellow in my marina that has a new Catamaran. Not sure of the manufacturer. He was telling me about having to wait for the very few times the drawbridge is opened up so that he can pass through it. He has a 57 foot mast ! What the heck is he doing at my marina, I have no idea. He is severely limited as to his daily/weekly sailings.

I thought we had problems with bridge clearances - He's another story altogether.
