Does anyone know of an inexpensive place for purchasing foam for my new cushions? I didn't realize that the increase in the cost of petroleum has affected the cost of foam. The price I was quoted at one place was $75.00 for a 3" thick piece 108 inches x 30 inches. I've estimated that I need approximately 617 inches for all of the cushions on my Catalina 25. I've checked e-bay and will keep checking.
You may be able to get foam from a local outdoor/patio furniture place. Since they don't have the word "marine" in their titles, you won't have to pay the boater's premium.
Will, I have purchased new cushions from CY. They included new foam. The foam on my 1989 looks good to me. When I took off my cushions I was surprised how good my original foam was. You're welcome to my foam. It's in great shape. All I'm asking is that you pay the freight from Rocky Mount, NC 27803. Bill
When I had our San Juan 24 I bought new Foam from a local Sporting good Store, Ok Ill plug Acadamy Sports. They have several sizes to chose from Different thickness. Most 3x6sheets were under 30 bucks. Sizes up to Queen. Git the wifes Electric Turkey Kife and go to town.
Thank you all for your suggestions. And Captain Bill thank you. I will take you up on your offer. I sent you an e-mail to the address listed in membership.
Good question Don, I forgot to mention that my interior is traditional style. I'm not sure exactly what that means except that CY was concerned about that. They looked up the info from my sail no. Will, the box from CY weighed 85 pounds. It measures about 2X4X8 feet. I think the box with foam only will be about 65 lbs. My 89 had a box covering over the v Berth forward hole which I will not be shipping (no foam for it). Also, It will be about two weeks before I can get to the marina. If you would like I can send pictures at that time.
Thanks. My 25 is the traditional layout. Pictures might be a good idea. I'm not sure what you mean by "box covering." What did it cost to ship your cushions from CY? Just trying to get an idea. Again, thank you for your generosity.
I called South Easten Freight Lines and their cost from Rocky Mount to Portland is $142.80 for dockside pickup. Hope you are near Portland. Also called UPS. Box is too big for them. I'm not sure if I could get it into 3 boxes that would meet their criteria. I beleive they are more expensive anyway.
Glad yours is traditional style. What year is your 25? Are there different requirements for different years?
The "box" I referred to is more appropriately described as a cover or lid to the V berth storage area where the head pump is located. I'm not sure all 25s have that covering. I'll take a picture of that also. Like I said it may be 2 weeks before I get to the Marina.
I didn't get your email. It may be blocked by my spam filter. I'll look and see if it is there.
Thanks. The address I used for your e-mail was in the Catalina 25 member's profile. Perhaps you can send me your e-mail address. Check my member profile for my address. I think we should communicate via e-mail rather than this forum.
I recently shipped somethings thru DHL Worldwide. They were cheaper than UPS and Fed-Ex and were more flexible in their requirements. 3 boxes would definitely be the way to go.
