I replaced the deck plug last season and at the end of the season my jibsheet became entangled on the wire going into the mast and pulled the wires right out of the back of the deck plug. In looking at the manual I cannot find a description as to which wire goes to which pin-screw in order to have the proper light turn on when the appropriate switch is flipped. Any suggestions?
Also, any suggestions where I can find a replacement for this gasket?
I just replaced my plastic plug like yours with a chromed brass deck plug. As for the wires, just get a 12v test light or multi-meter. Turn one switch on the panel and check the terminals for voltage. Process of elemination will tell you which is the ground. Or the meter will give you a (-) voltage. I was having lots of problems with lights up the mast. Tom Gepfrich gave me a lot of help and I finally unstepped the mast and rewired everything. Now I have a spreader light aimed at the cockpit. And I can see my hot dogs grilling on those moonless nights!
If you look at the drawing in the link provided by frankr the colors of the wires are: bow/steam - white, anchor - red, deck - black and ground - green. I use a diaelectric tape around my plug. The rubber gasket that comes with it only lasts about a year in the Florida sun. You can get it at any ACE Hardware or Radio Shack.
It was either BUS or W M. I would not rely on the colors. Mine were so screwed up I yanked them all. Tom Gepfrich and I spent over an hour trying to make sense of them. I finally drilled the rivots holding the step for access to the inside of the mast and replaced all wiring with new. One problem I had was switching to 16g. the wires was almost too big for the plug. But I wanted heavier gauge since I was adding a sealed beam spreader light. The old wires were not even soldered but only taped. I put heat shrink on the new installation.
Catalina Direct has the deck plugs your looking for.
The chromed brass ones are $17.95
The black plastic ones are $10.50
I bought one of the black plastic ones last year to replace mine. Its listed under the C25... but its one of those interchangeable items that fits the 250 as well. If you decide to use Catalina Direct, use the link to their site on our link page.
Frog 0911: Do you have a part number or size description for Ace on the rubber gasket? I need to change mine but right now it is burried and the boat tarps. I will need to get my boat on the lake as soon as possible after the oncologist releases me after six months of chemo therapy.I don't want to take a chance of losing my boat slip. Thanks Robert
I did not use a gasket. I used diaelectric tape. It comes in a roll like electrical tape, but not as big. Usually about 10 feet per roll. It is black and stickey like a tar substance. We used it all the time to wrap coax connectors on satellite systems to prevent moisture intrusion.
When I replaced my mast wiring on my C25, I ran the last foot or so of the wiring through some automotive fuel line. This provides strain relief for the wire and serves as a grommet going into the mast. Additionally, I used a dishwasher/disposer adapter to shield the rather unprotected connector from the elements.
