On Grapevine this weekend, we had steady winds of 20 with gusts to 32. My father in law and a friend of mine went out for a day of "Terror Sailing!" We reefed the main at the dock, let a small amount of the jib out, and reached hull speed on a broad reach. At first, the GPS showed 6.4, then 6.8, then occasional speeds of 7.0! We were quartering off the waves, and I guess they were pushing us. When we came about on a close point, our speed stayed at 4.8. We sailed for 5 hours, and shook all of the cushions loose below into a big pile. It was constant rocking and motion. You ocean and Great Lakes sailors get this all the time, but on this inland lake it was a kick! We finally made it back to the marina and drank beer, tired and thrilled. We only saw one other sailboat out. It was a great day to be alive!
