Despite having sent my application and 20 buck check into the Association for membership last November, my check was cashed but my application was never acknowledged. Jim Baumgart sent me a user name and password for access but I am still denied access to the members area. Bottom line: the Association has ripped me off for a lousy 20 bucks. Please advise who or what I should contact to get my money back. The inefficiency of this Association is mind boggling. Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, when you went to log into the members area did you happen to notice the big huge page that said the username has been changed? I've emailed you your new password.

Your ineptness for not following the instructions is no reason to call the association inefficient. As a matter of fact, inefficient is absolutely the wrong word to describe this great group of volunteers who put all this stuff together at no cost to the association. We all work very hard for free! I've put in almost 250 hours in the past 8 months and really find this disconcerting.

Beyond that, your 20 bucks goes in part toward the very website where you've been posting and toward the mainsheet magazine that you will start to receive quarterly with the next issue(or already have received). The combined cost of which is more than 20 bucks....So if you are saying that providing about 22 bucks worth of value, not even including the other services, for 20 dollars is inefficient, you must be correct.

No Paul, we aren't going to censor opinions...he is entitled to that. I hope he finds his way into the members section and all is well after that.

Frank,

First and foremost, the association has no membership criteria and, therefore, there is no possible membership denial.

Second, the association records indicate that your membership form and check, #2124 dated 10/31/05, were processed by the association's database management firm with the November 2005 batch, and a welcome letter was mailed to you on 11/20/05. Other than that letter and the association decal enclosed therewith, the only acknowledgement of your membership that you will receive is the quarterly Mainsheet Magazine. As Duane mentioned, nearly 75% of the $20 membership dues go towards your Mainsheet subscription, whereas the other 25% supports this website, sponsorship of the national regatta, and the other administrative costs of the association.

Finally, if after successfully or unsuccessfully accessing the Members area of the website using the updated user name and password emailed to you by Duane you desire to have your Mainsheet Magazine subscription cancelled and your $20 membership refunded, then please send me an email. My contact information can be found under the Flag Line & Staff link.

P.s. Once someone has responded to an original post the thread can only be deleted by the webmaster. Therefore, if you were so inclined, an email to the association's webmaster, Paul Alcock (britinusa), would resolve the matter.

I'm sorry you feel "ripped off," Frank. The fact is, in the short time you've been a "member" of this Association, you've started 14 threads (not including THIS one) in which you've asked for advice. You've gotten members' advice and expertise on everything from hand-held VHF radios, to depth/fishfinders, to ballast in your boat ... and you still feel "ripped off."

"A lousy 20 bucks" will barely pay for taking your grandkids to MacDonald's ... I'd say you've gotten more value from this Forum than a trip for a burger, but that's your call.

As someone who has been around here for awhile now, the one thing that is mind boggling is the tireless efforts of the officers, staff, and the others who volunteer their time to make this association and this website the best of the best.

I salute you all!

If you think that you might want to ask advise from anyone on this forum ever again you may consider replying with a big apology.Your $20 buys a pricless amount of information.
If you would like to improve efficiency maybe you should volunteer,I hear they are looking for new officers.

Frank has personally retracted the above via email and all now seems to be good. I stated earlier that we do not censor opinions; we do not allow pot shots to be taken at other members however. I (this is Duane) am going to lock this thread for that reason.
