Hey - Thanks to whomever bought the vacuum cleaner

This quarter's amazon program alone is bringing in 55 bucks+

A few others are hovering around 20.

Hi Duane, I just ordered some parts over the phone from CD and told the person that I wanted the points to go to us and she did not know what I was talking about. Do we only get point if we order online? Cheers.

No-one . Lowell does plenty for the association and then some. From Regatta sponsorships, free consultation on the tech support line and other things. He is probably not big enough to even benefit from such a program. We are working on a number of things with a number of different vendors that range from discounts to our members to affiliate programs. Please do not send him or any other vendor emails regarding this.

All affiliate programs are web only. All of them are structured to pay a percentage of the sale to the association. Most of the companies are sold on the idea based on the free advertising and the lack of any human intervention required to take a phone call, or collect the cash. Also keep in mind that the third party companies setting these programs up are undoubtedly getting a cut too. So the 5% to the association is probably 7-10 percent overall.

To give you a brief overview, here is how it works:

We join one or many in our case third party affiliate administration groups. Or in few cases sign up with the companies fully administered plans. In the case of the third party groups, we then apply for permission with each individual company to use their links. There are thousands out there. Some approve anyone, some evaluate each request. After approval, tons of links and graphics are made available to use. Discounts are based on any number of things – what link, what product, what vendor etc.

There are thousands of companies to choose from, however we as officers decided to go with companies with some relevance to our group and our website. We could literally make a shopping mall out of the links area, but that serves no one in the end.

Some companies have turned us down for any number of reasons. What you can do is make sure you join our association, the more members we have the easier it becomes to position ourselves to get linked up with who we want.

I am in the process of working with Paul to identify our affiliates on the links page – however we also want to maintain an organized categorical structure to the page.

Duane, I love you like a brother but that links page is a mess. I think the retail links should have their own page and that should be split between affiliates and FYI links. All the personal links and nautical reference links and such are just noise. People savvy enough to be on our forum are savvy enough to google anything they want to research.
What is an NEC?
I think the plethora of links has only ensured no one will use the ones that matter; the ones that make us money. Today I can find the Mauri Pro link, yesterday I looked for a minute and gave up, and yesterday I was trying to click through a customer who wants to buy a Harken III furler for his 28.

Duane, I beg to differ, but I use the miscellaneous links all the time and love having all that "extraneous" information accessible in one spot!

I agree and they won’t be removed, maybe only moved. They are great references for newbies and people posting reference them all the time. They do need some reorganization.
