If you receive emails that appear to be from PayPal (your account will be deleted in 72 hours) or eBay (about your eBay item), DO NOT open them as just reading the email (even in the Preview Pane) will install the virus on your computer. Norton Internet Security 2006 let the email slip through into my Inbox which opened the email in the Preview Pane.

The virus causes your Windows Alert to instruct you to run CheckDisk because the MRP.dll file is corrupted. Running CheckDisk then allows the virus to modify your Windows boot script and to do other nasty things that I'm not techno-savvy enough to understand. Anyway, the better reaction would be to immediately run a virus scan.

That's good advice. I received a similar ebay type message some months ago, and unfortunately I had just completed an ebay transaction so I thought it had something to do with the payment. Anyway, I got the Windows alert and the checkdisk and it really messed up the computer for a while until I ran enough virus scans to defeat it. Nasty one, that.

Ah, yeah, this was absolutely the last straw, and I'll be making the switch as quickly as possible. On top of losing files (no matter how carefully one backs up data) and the approximately six hours it takes to reload all the programs, Microsoft treats you to another six hours of "upgrade" downloads and installs; over broadband, no less!

Screw Microsoft!

We have Austrian house guests this week, they commented that their University is all Macintosh because they cannot afford the support people needed to use Windows machines.

Silly Duane, it is the OS not the processor that counts. 68000, 68020, 68030, 68040, G3, G4, G5, Intel Dual Core. No problems with any of them.

Aha....but therin you are wrong Frank....the processor is going to dictate the OS - (take a reread of my un-edited post I elude to that with the linux comment) The more they are aligned with the big boys the more people are going to take the time to write code to spite the man. You still have some time but its coming sooner or later.
