I just bought the 9.8 Ultra Long Shaft Tohatsu with electric start.

It should arrive in 10 days. I currently have a 2 spring motor bracket that is in good shape. The new motor weighs about 20 lbs more than my old Johnson 9.9 long shaft.

I have two questions about the motor bracket for those of you with this motor and the 2 spring bracket.

1. Do I need to upgrade to the 4 spring model? I don't have any trouble lifting the motor now and 20 lbs doesn't seem like a lot.

2. Do I have to remount the bracket on some shims? I've read that some have re-mounted their bracket using starboard because they needed the clearance.

Thanks in advance.
