I stopped into my local West Marine today to pick up a few odds and ends, they have remodeled the place and were having a grand reopening. The place was packed, grabbed a couple free hot dogs and a soda and made my way in. Once inside they had a table set up to register for door prizes. I filled out a card, picked up my odds and ends and proceeded to the boat to do some work. Finished up my work on the boat and went out for a afternoon sail.
7:22 my cell phone ran while I was sailing around on the lake... "Tom Potter this is West Marine". You have won the grand prize, a brand new. 276C Plus ($699.99)
Enjoy your new GPS ! Coincidentally...had franks and beans for dinner tonight. One of the rarest of occasions ! Then I read your post. But...West Marine did not call me. I think I will go down and ask if they are planning on any remodeling in the near future !
I wish we had a West Marine within easy driving distance here in Northern Michigan. The closest is Traverse City Michigan, about a six hour drive. Fortunately I get to handle merchandise at the West Marine when visiting my son in Tolodo, Ohio. Anyway, congrats Tom.

In the city where I live, we have two West Marine stores located three miles apart.
Excellent! A couple of weeks ago the West Marine near me had a special event featuring Garmin products. They were handing out scratch cards and I won a t-shirt which said "Get Garmin or Get Lost." Pretty cool shirt except it was way too big for me so gave it away to a friend.

My West Marine had the same promotion. I won a $10.00 off coupon from the first West Marine then went down the road to the other one and won another $10.00 coupon. Not as good as the Tom's Garmin grab, but I'll take it just the same.
I had a cousin,Walter, who had that kind of gift. Won cars, vacations, boxes of candy, etc. His favorite cousin Val on the other hand, who takes chances on everything, never won anything. I'm not bitter, I seem to remember the car was an Edsel

Picked up the "276C plus" today at West Marine. Been reading all the instructions tonight... lots of neat options with the unit. The thing I don't like is having to fork over big $$$ for Bluechart's man... those are costly! Guess since the unit was free I shouldn't complain about buying software. Anyone know a cheap source for bluecharts?
