Let me apologize in advance for the tone of this message, but this has gotten completely out of control and has become completely unmanageable and unbearable!
IF YOU HAVE JUST JOINED THE ASSOCIATION, THEN YOU WILL BE RECEIVING A WELCOME LETTER WITH THE LOGIN AND PASSWORD.
IF YOU HAVE RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN THE PAST NINE MONTHS, THEN YOU JUST RECEIVED AN EMAIL WITH THE LOGIN AND PASSWORD.
IF YOU WILL BE RENEWING YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN THE NEXT THREE MONTHS, THEN YOU WILL BE RECEIVING AN EMAIL OR A LETTER WITH THE LOGIN AND PASSWORD.
HOWEVER, IT MAY TAKE UP TO FOUR WEEKS FOR YOU TO RECEIVE THE INFORMATION.
<u><b>Please quit emailing the officers asking for the login and password.</u></b> I do not, nor does anyone else, have time to process all these requests, and there isn't anything within the members area that requires anyone to have immediate access.
Thanks for your understanding,
J.B. Manley s/v Sea Trac Allied Seawind II #65 DPO s/v Antares Catalina 25 #4849 Association Treasurer 2002 - 2006 Association Bookkeeper 2002 - 2008 Association Quartermaster 2004 - 2008
One thing to add to this post, JB is talking about the members only login and password which are the same for all association members, in other words, it is an area for the members of the association and your membership on the forum has nothing to do with it. Your forum login and password are only good to let you have full access to the forum, they have nothing to do with the member's only area. Remember all association members have the same login and password for this area, it is not unique to you!!!
We do this to protect the boat us member number that all association members have access to, it is in the member's only area. I would love to know if anyone has ever used it!!!
Well, this won't make me popular, but I sent in my renewal in December and got the email yesterday with the login and password. I know they process these things in batches, but 3 months seems like a long time, I hope the service we are using doesn't charge a lot.

We had a number of adjustments, utilization of email is now occuring to speed up the process. My only guess it that you we caught inbetween the crossover from one to the other.
Actually, Rick, the email that went out yesterday was a nine month batch instituted as a stop gap. Previously, renewals didn't receive a letter or email. The login and password haven't changed for over three years, so everyone that has joined within that timeframe received a letter with the information. I'm not sure why this has become such a problem all of a sudden, but it certainly has become a problem.
Quite possibly because we have finally built a members section that is beginning to add value.
A very nice Tell Tale design, a discount at online outboards, discounted books at US sailing, discounted Boat US membership, and soon - hopefully --more discounted stuff from other vendors.
Frank, you ask if anyone has ever used the BOAT US discount. I did this year when I renewed my membership, insurance, and Vessel Assist on line at the BOAT US website. I put in the code number found on our members-only site into the "Discount Code" field on their form. My fees were reduced from $19 to $9.
Well, a big old thwack on the head for me. I haven't asked for my user ID or password but I recently renewed my Boat/US membership without using the association's discount code. DUH.
Hi Steve, I did the same thing. I just sold a 1941 Harley, a 1956 Harley, and a Toyota MR2 all on ebay and forget to do the member thing. I could kick myself.

Thanks so much to the Officers for their contributions of time and effort. And Frank, thanks for explaining this to me. I was not aware that we all had the same password. And I have no idea what it is or were I might have put it some years ago. Which is why I have not been to the members area in a very long time.
Ben, you're right, and so was Tom. We failed to recognize that few retained or remembered the username and password because for so long there was no reason to access the area. We also failed to anticipate the increase in interest caused by the additions that have been made. (I had no idea so many people were in the market for a new outboard! )
Duane is working on two projects (this guy has more stamina and more diverse skills than anyone I know) to alleviate the problem: 1) an automated email reply, including the username and password, for those members joining or renewing via PayPal, and 2) a membership database reference program that would allow an automatic request/verification/response process to be put in place for those members that have misplaced or forgotten the username and password.

I've only been a member for the last couple of years. Before I bought my 25 I had a 22. In my position as a senior executive ( that means I'm old)with a fairly large firm I've had the opportunity to serve as an office in a number of national industry organizations. My hat is off to anyone who takes the time to be an office of this association. I know from experience that being an officer of an assoication can be a time consuming and thankless job. This association provides a great deal of information for a very minimal cost. Again Thanks to the officers.
Actually I need to buy a new outboard in the next week or so and I joined the Association to get the discount at OnlineOutboards. If I don't get the log in and password for 4 weeks then I can't get a discount. I paid my dues via Paypal so the Association has my money now. Seems a shame to have to wait that long. If anyone can help me please email me at: poolec@mac.com
