Actually, I do pretty good against my friend's H28 even though his mast seems to be twice the height of mine. We sail side-by-side quite a bit, and a slight majority of the time, I'm depowering so he can keep up. He does have a shoal draft wing/bulb keel though. Nice lookin boat!
I raced against a Hunter 40 last year. I stayed with them all night in light off-shore air. As he wind picked up the next morning, around 1100, and started shifting on-shore, I got caught in one of those wierd wind shifts that seems to come from everwhere at once and leaves you bouncing in the waves until it finally settles down. Anyway, the Hunter was a quarter mile inshore, picked up a nice breeze, and left me wallowing.
