Does this group feel that the depth sounder transducers which don't mount through the haul, but sit face down on the inside of the haul, work as well?
A friend of mine, is considering buying a new depth sounder for me to install for him. I'd rather not have to pull his boat and replace the through haul transducer.
Do most of the fish finder transducers mount through the haul or hang off the back of the transom?
Many of us have "shoot through the hull" transducers rather than "put a hole in the boat" transducers and they work just great. Very easy to intall, too.
Hit the "search" link above and enter terms like depth sounder, fish finder or transducer, you'll get more information than you really wanted.
I've got a $100 fish finder that is rated to see down 600 feet. My transducer is epoxied inside the hull just forward of the keel. Works great, I can see down to 560 or so. See fish, kelp, wrecks on the bottom, everything.
Get a 'Wax Bowl Seal' in the hardware store. Sticky yellow goopy wax. Cut off a chunk and use it to stick the transducer inside the hull.
Works great. May have to be renewed every few years, but, for a few pennies, what the heck. If you don't get good results where the transducer is located or you want to it to another boat later on... just wiggle it free and away you go.
Well...no time to fool around with it this morning. Fishfinder details on website. (I suspect this second photo is too large and does not show up on the posting.)
